![]() Religion has always been a political tool, but it's also been a deeply personal and convicting force for billions of people throughout history. I suppose it's the same as watching a WWII film where all the German soldier protagonists are good guys who constantly decry Nazi Germany and the SS when the vast majority agreed with Nazi ideology. I guess I just find it frustrating when characters aren't historically accurate. The vast majority thought the Crusades were acceptable. The main characters in Kingdom of Heaven do not seem to reflect the ordinary people and mindset of Medieval Europeans. Now, I think both sides of the conflict were barbarous and at fault, because the Medieval world was incredibly violent, and as such characters should be presented that way. It just feels like a really forced attempt to make the audience like the characters by presenting them as the antithesis to the presumed "villains" - the Templars. In the sense that, all the characters that we are supposed to like are shown to be religious pluralists and broadly against the aims and violence of the Crusades. I feel that it tries way too hard to appeal to the modern audience. ![]() ![]() ![]() But there's always been something in particular niggling me about it. I watched the Extended Director's cut, and first let me say I love it. ![]()
